You chose to stay at the Goodridge House for two nights before continuing onto the Elmwood Mansion.Staying at Goodridge's house seems as safe as any other location in York County and he has a reputation for keeping runaway slaves safe. The next day, Margaret rests up in the basement and William's wife delivers breakfast, lunch, and dinner to Margaret in her basement quarters. She prepares for another night of peace and has just fallen asleep as she is awaken by the sound of boots stepping down the basement stairs.
Edward Prigg: "I thought maybe I would find you here. I'd like you to come with me." Margaret: (To herself) "How could this be? How did he find me here?" Prigg had been right on Margaret's heels and had spoken with much of the York County citizens to find where Margaret might be hiding. Goodridge's home was widely known in the York area as an Underground Railroad station,so searching the Goodridge House was a no-brainer. With Margaret in Prigg's possession, he could now transport her down to the Morgan Plantation and collect the $100 reward. Margaret may have been tired, but staying at the Goodridge House too long was a decision she will forever regret. |
