You chose to depart the next evening with William Goodridge, in an effort to get to the Elmwood Mansion.Goodridge: "Good evening, Margaret. It's starting to get dark, we should move on to the Elmwood Mansion with haste."
Margaret: "Yes, let's move on." Goodridge: "You never know when Prigg might come a calling, so I need to make it back here before he does to assure him that you were not here." Margaret and William exit the house, but after some time walking they see a light approach the house behind them. Margaret: "What is that?" Goodridge: "We need to move further away, and fast." Margaret: "William, I don't feel too good. Are we almost there?" Goodridge: "Yes, but we cannot stop now. That would definitely result in your capture." William and Margaret approach a large house with a wrap-around porch. Margaret: "Is that it?" Goodridge: "Yes, this is where we part ways." Margaret: "Thank you for everything, William." Goodridge: "No need to thank me... now go, and good luck." Margaret knocks on the door. The door cracks open... a face peeks out. It is Jacob Brillinger, owner of the Elmwood Mansion and director of the York Bank. Jacob: "May I help you?" Margaret: "William Goodridge brought me here. I am seeking safe harbor... will you help me?" Jacob: "Yes, please come in. The slave catchers have been watching my movements recently, so I better get you up to the attic as quick as possible before someone comes knocking. They won't catch you there." Margaret: "Thank you, Sir." |
