You chose to hide in a hay bale in the barn.Margaret finds a corner in the barn covered by two large hay bales. She climbs in and stays very quiet. The barn door opens up and a large hulk of a man enters... his face lit up by the candle he is holding. He storms through the barn, knocking over rakes and shovels... he trying to scare Margaret out. Margaret stays still. He continues searching. Margaret can see the light coming closer. The area around her is getting brighter. She starts to ponder why she chose to stay in the barn. There is no way out.
Samuel: "Sir, I understand you have a job to do, but I will not stand for this. I will not let you come into my property and destroy my belongings." Edward: "I have reason to believe that you are hiding a fugitive in this barn, Sir. I will take any means necessary to do my job." Samuel: "You have no warrant and you have not alerted the Marshal. You have no right to trespass." Edward: "I'll let you win on this day, Mr. Willis, but I'll be back, and if I find that you were hiding fugitive slaves, I won't just punish the slave but you as well." Edward Prigg storms out, slamming the barn door behind him. Samuel follows behind him, securing the two barn doors and Margaret hears some echoing in the distance, but you cannot make out the words. Twenty minutes later, someone reenters the barn. Samuel: "Margaret, it's me Samuel. That was a close one. The slave catcher is gone." Margaret: "Oh, that's wonderful." Samuel: "Before he returns, we better get you to the Goodridge house next." Margaret: "Alright Mr. Willis, I will follow you there." Samuel: "We have to make sure to keep out of sight and off the main roads as much as possible, there might be slave catchers around." Margaret: "Okay Mr. Willis." Samuel and Margaret venture to William Goodridge's home on Philadelphia Street. They remain to the North as much as possible in their journey, but must sneak onto the main roads to finally reach Mr. Goodridge. Samuel knocks on the door. The door opens... Samuel: "William, can you provide assistance for a young lady?" William: "Of course, Samuel. Come in, come in." |
